Splurge Health Food Products Worth Blowing Your Money On
One of the biggest turn offs about healthy eating is how expensive it can be. Amongst the fancy kombucha, endless superfood powders, and organic goodies, eating healthy can easily add up if you are not being conscious about what you buy. Essentially, if you stick to the basics, eating healthy is cheap. Fruit, veggies, and whole grains are probably the cheapest groceries to buy and provide a wide array of nutrients to properly fuel your body.
If you’re a health foodie like me, you enjoy trying out the new products that are coming out whats seems like each week. Personally, I enjoy browsing the grocery store, finding new products that are real ingredients, provide benefits to my body, and are tasty is rewarding for me. I am a firm believer that healthy eating can be and is delicious, and while fruits and vegetables are delicious, sometimes you want the "healthified" version of your favourite foods.
Whether it’s a good or bad thing, I am willing to bite the bullet and try new products that I have heard great reviews about. That being said, there are definitely some products I have discovered while they aren’t the most budget friendly, offer a great product if you’re wiling to splurge for a little treat.
I have found that I can incorporate some of these items if I budget the rest of my groceries well each week. Also, many of these products go on sale, so keep a look out! But I’ve tried many things far and wide that seem to be the newest craze, and to save you the hassle (and dollars), I’ve complied a list of my favourite health food splurge items!
Purely Elizabeth Granola
This is hands down my favourite spurge item, so much so that I buy it weekly! Purely Elizabeth Granola is made from organic ingredients, is certified gluten free, and vegan so people with dietary restrictions can enjoy it. While it is sweetened with coconut sugar, it has a lot less sugar than most granolas. If you’re willing to chuck out a good $7 for a bag of granola, then definitely try the Blueberry Hemp or Probiotic Sea Salt Chocolate. In my opinion, it is worth every cent!
If you don’t like Mexican, then I worry about you. But if you’re like the rest of us and could celebrate Taco Tuesday every day of the week, then Siete is worth trying out. Their tortilla chips are made from wholesome ingredients that you can feel great about putting into your body. With different flavours to try out, you don’t even need salsa for these chips because they are so flavourful. Just be mindful you’ll be putting down $5 for a bag that will most likely be gone on your car ride home from the grocery store. If you’re really feeling bougie, then the tortillas are a gift from the God’s, but you’ll be paying the price because 8 tortillas usually come in for $9. Warning… once you go Siete, you never go back.
This brand of my weakness. Anything Simple Mills you can best believe I will advocate for. My favourite Simple Mills products are their crackers and their cookies. Simple Mills has some of the tastiest and healthiest crackers on the market. Their crackers have flavours for every taste bud, and the best part is that you can eat them alone or pair them with your favourite dips. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then I 100% recommend snagging a box of Simple Mills cookies. Imagine the healthified version of Chips Ahoy. Yep… it’s been done, and it will leave you wondering where the whole box went. Both the crackers and cookies come in at about $5 a box, but they often go on sale!
KiteHill Cream Cheese
Part of my childhood consisted of bagels and cream cheese. It’s an all American classic, and now we’ve got plant based options for cream cheese! Rather than being full of strange oils and fillers, KiteHill Cream Cheese uses simple and few ingredients to make a nut milk based cream cheese, and let me tell you, it takes me back to my childhood. Be ready to put yourself out about $7 for a small tub. Savour it!
Amongst the case of endless drinks in the grab and go of your local health food restaurant, Rebbl is a quality product that is DELICIOUS. With endless flavour options, adaptogens, and a flipping magical taste, Rebbl is worth the splurge if you’re looking for a plant based drink. My favourite flavours are the Maca Mocha and Reishi Chocolate because they taste so rich, and they’re still nutritious. Imagine gulping down a smooth, velvety chocolate milk, while gaining endless health benefits at the same time. I’d say that’s a worth $5 investment for anyone.
I hope this helps for the next time you’re at the grocery store and staring the 62 different granola options in the face and deciding which to take the plunge and try! If you’re wanting to try other products out for the first time that aren’t on this list, always know that quality ingredients are what matters. A common thread through all of the products above is that they are real food ingredients. Let us know if you try any of these spurges out and if you agree they’re worth it or not so much!
